I encountered the same problem as Zargon a few days ago. I can't replicate now however... But here is an example project where this problem happens: Just open and run action to explode to new tracks..
It doesn't sound desirable. I've not encountered that. I'm sure there's a reason it does that, as in, why the way it was programmed does that, but it doesn't sound like how it's intentionally designed to work to me. If you can find what cases it does that in, that might help. Are you first cutting takes and then exploding across tracks? there is definitely a reason the splits are happening where they're happening. That might help us figure out what's going on.

Hey there, Zargon. Love the ALF picture. I was just looking at the options menu and near the top is "New recording that overlaps existing media items", and there are a couple of options there to choose from. I have "Creates new media items in lanes (layers)" checked. Default is "Splits existing items and creates new takes" and that to me, seems to describe what you're seeing. I typed before I tested, so I'll do that now, and I'm sorry if there's no help there. Happy New Year.
Wow. I just played around with makin' a bunch of takes and, yeah that's just, as you stated already, weird, fer sure. I usually record longer passes using a time selection, or just create a new track altogether, rather than punching in shorter sections. So, I don't have a bunch of small bits to sort through. I have enough trouble with organization in my life as it is, lol. Good luck, Happy New Year if I didn't already say such.

@ Try this script and tell me if it sorts ok the exploded takes: Run it just after having run action 40224 ("Take: Explode takes of items across tracks")

it feels kind of gluttonous to ask that, but could you make a lua that would allow to overdub-record a track in loopmode and without having to stop recording would automatically explode/move the newly recorded take out of our way to its own track (until you press stop or disable record ready) ? so that if i record several iterations of the same thing (and paired with activating and deactivating the loopmode, changing loop selection without having it restart playback results could be wild!) ? I feel that this way one could make reaper into a live thing.
