Here's a few ideas for turning riffs into songs: Find 2 riffs that go well together and just play them over and over, back to back, experimenting freely with slight variations on them. This will happen naturally if you focus on "feel" instead of playing them "perfectly." If you do this long enough, other parts will start to branch out of those and eventually you'll have the workings of a song. Most of mine are based on at least 3 strong riffs and one of them I only play once (usually called the bridge). Record your ideas and copy/paste them into an "arrangement." Keep listening to it and changing anything that doesn't work. Over time you'll get a sense of that. Play your riffs with a friend who plays another instrument. Whatever they do may change the way you play your riffs and then you have your variations. Record your riffs and listen to them objectively. Sometimes they suck and you need a bit of time away from them to judge this.
I already have a workflow theres some misunderstanding here in that I had someone who knows what they are doing set up my project templates I dont really have a technical problem with reaper everything I am recording is the same Its true that the problem is arround "arranging" but that usually happens by changing the midi drum patterns I have midi drum parts ie,..midi 1-intro midi 2 verse midi 3 chorus so depending on how the parts get recorded i just change the order of the midi items I need way more specific midi blues patterns I recently got a les spaul clone Im playing in drop D I record it clean,.\ im still looking for a track tempalte that works with this i got a couple of specialized mics although im not sure a sure sm7b is the best mic for recording my voice I dont know what other technical problems I have it just seems to be a matter of playing the parts enough times that there are no mistakes ,..then adding a reverb buss (lots of reverb !!) I was just introducing myself. That is a lot of good advice and thanks everyone for being so promt to try to help its like karbo said much of it is song/composition related. but theres also the issue of having "cool sounding drums" drums seem to be "in with the kids" these days have a good day all
